The djembe is a skin covered drum played with your bare hands ( remove any rings before playing because they can damage the drum skin.) Using your palm hit the drum in the centre for a bass note, the rim with your fingers produces a higher note. Slapping the drum skin with a snapping action makes a short sharp slap sound. Where and how you hit the drum gives a full range of tones when played in a group with a variety of different sized drums and rhythms the possibilities are endless and brilliant to listen to.
